Engagement rings, wedding bands and statement pieces - there's one thing in common. If we don't care for them correctly, they'll lose their magic. Dirt and sweat can coat your gemstone and dull their lustre.
However, taking care of your gemstone rings is easy. Just remember these guidelines.
-
Firstly, make sure that your ring (and other jewelry) is always insured, and serviced annually.
-
Secondly, the best care is right storage. A cool, dry place reduces tarnishing caused by heat and dampness.
-
When cleaning, remember the three no's - no harsh chemicals, no scrubbing, and no pressure.
-
Pearls and Emeralds are softer than other gems, so please pay special attention to them.

Do's
-
The simplest, easiest, and safest way to clean your ring is to wash it in a glass filled with mildly warm soap water. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, rub gently on the front, back and sides of your centre stone to dislodge dirt.Â
-
Dry your ring on a kitchen towel and wipe with a piece of flannel. Use a jewelry cleaning cloth if available.
Don'ts
-
Don't wash your ring over the sink - if it slips, it's gone!
-
Don't scratch the gemstone with your nails or any sharp object.
-
Don't use any chemicals you're not sure of. For any doubts, do write to us at ecomsupport@auwlassembly.com.
-
Not all gems withstand ultrasonic treatment, so don't use the method without asking a professional.
No Go Places for your Ring
- Saunas: places with high heat will damage your gemstone.
- Jacuzzis or swimming pools: they have chemicals that can erode your ring.
- Any places you go swimming: the cold water shrinks your finger to upto a half size, so your ring may slip off unnoticed.
- The beach: sand grains get lodged between your stone and the setting, and also leave microscopic scratches that dull its shine.
-
When doing heavy lifting: You run the risk of accidentally crushing your ring band.
