Your jewelry means a lot to you – and it means the world to us. With a few easy steps to follow, you can make sure that it retains its brilliance for a long time, even when you wear it every day.
Storage & Handling
-
Store your jewelry in a cool and dry place, preferably in the original packing to prevent scratching and tangling. Use a dehumidifier to lower the relative humidity of the room if you live in a humid place.
-
Avoid stacking jewelry of different metals or stones in storage. Harder gemstones like diamonds can scratch softer stones like Pearls or Emeralds. Similarly, harder metals like platinum scratch softer metals like 18K gold.
-
Avoid touching your jewelry too many times, as the oils from your fingers can dull its appearance. However, this works the opposite for Emeralds, as your skin oils replenish their own oils and keep them bright!
Cleaning
-
Clean your jewelry regularly to get rid of built-up dirt. Each gemstone has its own care guidelines (see below), but wiping with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth works for most. You can get a specially made jewelry polishing cloth in AUWL Assembly's packaging box.
-
Avoid rubbing with abrasive sponges or brushes.
-
Do not expose your jewelry to harsh chemicals such as acid, ammonia, bleach, or household cleaners. Even toothpaste and hot water are not good for cleaning jewelry.
-
Many gems can fade or get bleached when exposed to high heat, or direct sunlight.
-
If you’re doubtful about the cleaning agents at home, you can ask a jeweler near you for specially made gem-and-jewelry cleaning solutions.
Wearing
-
Wear your jewelry after finishing your skincare routine and applying makeup. Similarly, take off your jewelry before removing makeup, cleaning etc. This applies to hairspray, deo, and perfumes as well.
-
When wearing multiple rings, leave small gaps between them. This avoids the rings touching and scratching each other.
-
Do not wear jewelry when you practice sports, Yoga, or physical exercise, as sweat can damage jewelry. Similarly, avoid wearing jewelry while swimming, as the chlorine in pools can affect them.
-
Take your jewelry off while sleeping to avoid accidental damage, and store it in its own box, away from other polished gold or platinum surfaces to prevent scratches.
-
For jewelry that is valuable, please buy insurance against theft or damage, especially when travelling.
-
When going to the gym, the pool, or the beach, leave your jewelry safe at home. Gym or pool lockers may not always be safe.
-
It helps to wear a smaller ring in front of a loose ring for a quick fix, if you haven't had a chance to resize it.

Quick Care Tips
-
For the main element of any piece, softly scrub behind the gemstones, the hollow seat area and under the setting with a soft-bristled toothbrush to restore your jewelry's sparkle.
-
If needed, soak the piece in lukewarm, soapy water for an hour to loosen dirt before brushing.
